Young Man with Autism Opens Design Business
Andrew Pegg, a 22-year-old man with Autism is the owner of a home-based design business that sells personalized advertising products and gifts. Pegg started the business with a consultation and funding from the Reach Independence through Self-Employment Program of the Maryland State Department of Education. Because he is non-verbal, Pegg uses his skills with written communication to acquire new funding for his business and make presentations about the accomplishments that individuals with disabilities can achieve. Click here to read the complete story. Children with Autism to Perform Play Inspired by HBO's "Autism: The Musical," an Ohio organization is putting on a play starring children with Autism. In addition to acting and singing, the children are also helping with writing the play and creating the set. The play, which includes both verbal and non-verbal roles, is set on a farm and includes songs along with some information on Autism. The organization's founder, Christa Milner, says "Our role here is that we treat everybody the way we want to be treated." Click here to read the complete story. |
