Child with Autism Wins Photography Contest
An eleven-year-old boy with Autism named Piers was recently the winner of the Weekend Australian Magazine's What Matters Most photography contest. Piers has been taking photographs for about one year, and his family reports that many of his photos are abstract, focusing on small details of objects and places. He also enjoys taking pictures of his family.

Additionally, Piers enjoys drawing (particularly intersections) and working with clay. Of his art, his mother says, "It's one of the few times people will see things his way. Just to see things through his eyes for a moment is valuable."

Young Man with Autism Finds Joy and Independence in Health Center Career
A 21-Year-Old Texan with Autism recently obtained employment at a medical center after completing a job training program. His job duties include cleaning patient rooms, sanitizing nurse stations, and wrapping instruments and materials used to care for patients at the center. Of his job, he says, "I like knowing that the instruments I’m cleaning and processing are going to be used to save human lives." Of supports in place at the center, the man's mother reports, "The accommodations often make everyone more productive...And our kids, they don’t talk about others or have hidden agendas when they come to work."
