Boy With Autism Plays Baseball, Wins Essay Contest
A nine-year old boy with Autism has earned his little league baseball team $5000 by winning an essay contest about how baseball had helped him overcome challenges in his life. The money will help fund a new irrigation system at a local baseball field. Of the young player, his parents said, "with his fondness for repetition, has proved to be an unusually consistent player. Teen with Asperger's Becomes Valedictorian of High School Aaron Snook, a high school student with Asperger's syndrome, was determined to become his high school's valedictorian, taking Advanced Placement courses, including some online that weren't otherwise available. "He challenged my brain," said his calculus teacher Trudi Boyd. "He had new ways of looking at things, so I had to be thinking all of the time. ... He really is learning for more than just grades. He really is learning because he just likes to learn." Aaron has received a scholarship, and is now looking forward to college, where he is considering a major in math, science or computer science.
