Summary: Based on the real-life experiences of his son, "Beast" is a fictionalized memoir about a young boy with autism with a talent for playing baseball. Review: In "Beast," Dave Donch shares a fun, yet inspiring, story of a child who is given an opportunity to share his talent on the baseball field with his community. Through the eyes of his little league coach, we see the trials (such as teasing from other kids) and triumphs (excelling in a talent or interest area) that reflect the experiences of many students with autism. This novel reminds us that our children or students with autism have talents and gifts that are uniquely their own, and can truly shine when we believe in them and give them a chance.
