Christmas and Winter Holiday Activities
I typically use a themed unit with my students for about one-two weeks to ensure that there is enough depth and repetition to ensure learning. Please see the links at the bottom of the page for activities for other winter holidays.




"Visiting Family at Christmas" Social Skill Article

As a social skill story for older/more verbal children wtih autism, this social article provides information on greeting visitors, spending time with and talking to visitors, and things visitors may do, such as hugging the child.

Christmas Tree Token Economy
A token economy in which students earn “ornaments” as points on a Christmas tree point chart. Allow students to earn points by decorating a Christmas tree! When the student has put all the ornaments on the tree and added the star on top, he or she has earned all of the points, and receives a reward, such as extra computer time. A great tool for motivating students to complete school work or learning activities, behave in a positive way, or increase social interactions.

"Going to Visit Santa" Social Skill Story
This story targets the skills of: visiting Santa at the mall or a store, waiting in line, sitting on Santa's lap, telling what you want for Christmas, and taking a picture with Santa.

"Getting Presents at Christmas" Social Skill Story
This story targets the skills of: putting presents under the tree, waiting to open presents, saying "thank you," only opening the presents that are yours, and how to tell if a present is yours.
